How your work gets richer with Social Media: the case of “Millions Fed”

Antonella’s post on the experience of the CGIAR at COP 15 documented how social media helps your communication efforts.
Key message: if you want your work to reach wider audiences, to get enriched by their contributions and to be as visible as possible- You can’t go wrong with social media; something the ICT-KM Program has been actively promoting for a while now. And there’s a battery of tools out there that can help you get the job done. But you need to use them in a smart way….

Looking Behind the Africa Trial Sites Network

While Asia and Latin America have benefitted from the Green Revolution, agricultural yields in Africa have increased little over the last half century.  This gap is due, in part, to the current state of African research systems. Improved systems will lead to increased yields, a solution that African governments and donors already recognize.

Virtualization 2.0 (#2 CGIAR Strategic Technologies Series)

As I said when I posted the Top#1 Strategic Technology post on Storage Infrastructure a few weeks ago, a properly functioning Storage infrastructure goes hand in hand with an efficient ‘Virtual‘ environment, so it actually makes sense that the Virtualization 2.0 topic ranked #2 in the Strategic Technologies for the CGIAR in 2010.

Social media and institutional communications: the CGIAR experience at COP15

When I blogged about social media and agriculture at COP15 back in December, the adventure of the CGIAR and its partners at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen had just begun. It was an exciting time with the tag “Copenhagen” gaining the top 10 trending topics on the opening day of the Conference. In the following days, sitting in Rome and watching the #cop15 tag on Twitter was like being in the middle of the crowds demonstrating in the streets. But there was a lot going on behind the scenes and away from the TV cameras.

Google Maps, Open Source and Plotting Ongoing Research: Demonstrating Innovation

It is the perfect time to celebrate CGX 2.0’s birthday by talking about the tangible differences made by ICT-KM’s choice to shift away from proprietary technical architectures and move towards a more ample and sustainable technical landscape.  This technical landscape is epitomized by what is called Enterprise 2.0, “a system of web-based technologies that provide rapid and agile collaboration, information sharing, emergence and integration capabilities in the extended enterprise” (

Happy 1st birthday, CGX 2.0!

On February 16, 2009, we activated the Google Analytics tracking code on cgxchange.org… so today is CGX 2.0 first online birthday. We were just going into the beta phase, with a survey and consultation with users: the first official announcement went out on March 23…
To celebrate and reflect on the first year of life of CGXchange reborn, here’s a quick summary of last year’s highlights:

Empowering the new CGIAR

The selection of a new board is the latest step in the CGIAR Change Management Initiative. The CGIAR is renewing …and with this renewal comes a new way of doing business.
Shared services, joint positions, distributed teams, 24/7 coverage, regional hubs, Megaprograms…. all new terminology, all new ways of doing business.
If we are serious about doing things differently and doing them well, we need to ensure we embrace the innovations in technologies and media that can support these new processes.
